Top 10 Tuesday: All-Time Favorite Authors

I gave this TTT a lot of serious thought. It wasn’t difficult for me to pick only 10, as crazy as that sounds, but rather it was more difficult to think about my working definition of “favorite.” Because, believe it or not, several of the novels written by the authors on the list probably wouldn’t make my all-time favorite books list. But their authors are on this list because their writing has moved me, or inspired me, or captivated me. It is absolutely the best feeling to become so wrapped up in a book you forget all else. These authors have accomplished that for me, so I thank them for it. 🙂

In no particular order…

JK-Rowling-2

1. J.K. ROWLING – Harry Potter series, Cormoran Strike novels

2. AGATHA CHRISTIE – Hercule Poirot murder mysteries

3. MAGGIE STIEFVATER – Raven Boys series

4. SUZANNE COLLINS – Underland Chronicles, Hunger Games trilogy

5. MARISSA MEYER – Lunar Chronicles

6. RICHELLE MEAD – Vampire Academy series, Bloodlines series

7. CASSANDRA CLARE – Mortal Instruments series, Infernal Devices trilogy

8. SARAH DESSEN – contemporary romance

9. MAUD HART LOVELACE – Betsy-Tacy series

10. RICK RIORDAN – Percy Jackson series, Kane Chronicles, Heroes of Olympus series

What do you think? Are any of these authors your all-time favorites? Would you read absolutely anything they write?

Hi Brenda! I didn’t know Rick Riordan is writing a Norse mythology series – so cool! I was glad he made my list because it seems the male authors are lacking and also he’s a great representation of middle grade. His books were a huge part of my transition from middle grade to YA, and I won’t forget that. 🙂

And Then There Were None was my first Agatha Christie book, too! 🙂 And it’s still one of my favorites. But I love her Belgian detective Hercule Poirot – you should definitely check out a Poirot mystery. Thanks for commenting, Susan!

Richelle Mead will forever be my top all time favorite author. Vampire Academy opened up my eyes to the fantasy world (while Rose may have taught me a thing or two about being sassy ;)). I NEED to get my hands on The Raven Boys series and the Lunar Chronicles. I’ve heard such amazing things about them and this list only furthered my cause. Awesome list! 🙂

I was such a vampire-book snob before I succumbed to reading VA… I read the series early last year and I remember reading in class on my phone because I was so obsessed! Rose is such a great character. And you’re totally right – Richelle Mead’s fantasy world is incredible. Um, you need to DROP EVERYTHING and read Raven Boys RIGHT NOW. And also the Lunar Chronicles. I just finished reading Fairest this afternoon, and it renewed my admiration for Marissa Meyer. She’s genius.

What an awesome memory! Someone recently gave me all the Poirot TV episodes on DVD, and I’m super excited about it. 🙂 You should totally read some Agatha Christie and then let me know what you think! Thanks for commenting, Maggie.
