Top 10 Tuesday: Books I Want to Reread

top 10 tuesday graphic 3

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

So today’s TTT is about books we’d like to reread. I will admit: I am NOT a rereader. There are so many books and so little time, and so I read books once and that’s it. However, there are several exceptions.

The books I choose to read again (and again) are special to me in some way – I identified with one or more of the characters, the plot was spectacular, or the overall tone of the book struck me. So the ten books I’ve chosen are books that have made some sort of impression – books I can’t get out of my head.

So without further ado, I give you the top 10 books I’d like to reread (in no particular order):

books-to-reread

1. Clockwork Angel (Infernal Devices Trilogy) by Cassandra Clare – I think Clare really knew what she was doing by the time she began writing this trilogy. Also I love the ties to the Mortal Instruments series.

2. The Raven Boys (Raven Cycle) by Maggie Stiefvater – Beautiful novel.

3. Graceling by Kristin Cashore – I like to curl up on Friday nights and reread my favorite passages of this book.

4. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – Maybe I won’t cry this time.

5. Cinder (Lunar Chronicles) by Melissa Meyer – I think it’d be fun to reread these books simply to catch all of Meyer’s foreshadowing.

books-to-reread-2

6. Gregor the Overlander (Underland Chronicles) by Suzanne Collins – I was a fan of Suzanne Collins before she was cool. This was pre-Hunger Games, my friends. I have fond memories of reading this series with my dad.

7. The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart – Another book I read quite a long time ago. These characters are witty and intelligent (they’re geniuses) and I loved the mystery and the riddles.

8. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin – Required reading in 8th grade and one of my favorites. Definitely quirky and eccentric, but that’s why I like it.

9. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling – No explanation necessary. I learn from Rowling’s books each time I reread them.

10. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – Such lovely writing. Such a haunting story. <3

Have you read these novels, and would you read them again? What books have you reread, or would like to reread? Share your thoughts!

Top 10 Tuesday: Books to inspire Halloween spirit

top 10 tuesday graphic 3

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

So today’s topic is books to put you in the Halloween spirit – I’ve chosen 10 that gave me goosebumps, or featured demons/monsters/magic. And consequently, I think each of these novels could inspire a really cool costume, which was the other topic for today’s TTT. Enjoy!

TTT-halloween-1

1. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – Warriors fighting demons – definitely a series to put you in the Halloween spirit!

2. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – If the Darkling doesn’t put you in the Halloween spirit, I don’t know what will.

3. Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong – Monsters! *squeal*

4. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – Book 1 in a series about magic and Fae and evil kings.

5. In the Shadows by Keirsten White – Several scenes seriously creeped me out. Totally appropriate for Halloween!

TTT-halloween-2

6. Cinder by Marissa Meyer – This Cinderella requires a very different costume.

7. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – Vampires. The undead. Need I say more?

8. Vitro by Jessica Khoury – There are humans being bred on this island.

9. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge – Another darker/grittier fairy tale retelling!

10. Born of Illusion by Teri Brown – Magicians, mediums, mentalists, and seances. Read this on Halloween and shiver with delight. (That was cheesy. I apologize.)

What novels put you in the Halloween spirit? Please share!

top 10 tuesday graphic 3

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I’ve listed below (in no particular order) the ten places books have made me want to visit. (Almost all of them are fictional! Go figure.) I am posting this very late in the day, but better late than never, right? I was super excited about this post.

envelopes-anna-ttt

1. Paris – Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Ooh la la. I think there’s a strong chance I could find love in Paris like Anna.

2. London – 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson
A giant department store? I’m there.

places-to-go-ttt

3. The Underland – Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
It’s an underground world beneath NYC populated by giant rodents. I’d really like to check it out.

4. New Beijing – Cinder by Melissa Meyer
New Beijing is home to super cool tech and Prince Kai. And also Thorne. <3

5. Dystopian Chicago – Divergent by Veronica Roth
The factions fascinate me, I’m not gonna lie.

6. Panem’s Capital – Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Not sure I’d want to live here, but I’d certainly like to visit.

places-to-go-ttt-2

6. Hogwarts – Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Do I even have to explain?

7. Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women – Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter
I’ve always had a secret obsession with becoming a spy.

places-to-go-ttt-3

8. Eighteenth-century London – Gideon Trilogy by Linda Buckley Archer, Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare
London made the list TWICE. Two time periods!

9. 1920s New York – Born of Illusion by Teri Brown

Top 10 Tuesday: Difficult Reads

top 10 tuesday graphic 3

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

allegiant-TTT

1. Allegiant by Veronica Roth – There’s just this awful feeling of impending doom. : /

throne-of-glass-TTT

2-3. Crown of Midnight / Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas – Great books, but they’re difficult to read because Maas makes you feel SO MANY THINGS. (And I actually haven’t finished Heir of Fire yet, so no spoilers please!)

panic-TTT

4. Panic by Lauren Oliver – I thought this was a very good novel. But it disturbed me. I read it all the way through because I needed – but didn’t necessarily want – to know what happened.

kite-runner-fault-stars-just-listen-TTT

5. Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini – Subject matter for sure. I LOVED this book, but there are several passages that are quite difficult to read, emotionally speaking.

6. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen – Again, subject matter. This book became another absolute favorite, but I remember struggling with it. (And that’s probably why it’s stuck with me more than any of Sarah Dessen’s other novels, which have all impacted me in some way.)

7. Fault in Our Stars – Subject matter! I refused to read this book for the longest time because I thought it’d be depressing.

arclight-TTT

8. Arclight by Josin L. McQuein – I just wasn’t a fan of this book. It was a difficult read for me simply because I wasn’t enjoying it, but I’d already gone too far to give up.

vampires-TTT

9 – 10. Blood Promise / Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead – AH! Two fantastic series. Both of these books were difficult to read because Mead delights in torturing her readers. (If you’ve read either of these series, YOU’LL KNOW WHAT I MEAN.)

top 10 tuesday graphic 3

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

These are the books I’ve placed on my TBR list (but haven’t gotten around to reading yet!) due to multiple recommendations. You may recognize a few of these novels from last week’s TTT (books I’m not sure I want to read). In no particular order:

ttt-if-i-stay-eleanor-park

1. If I Stay by Gayle Forman – I’ve been told this book is on par with Fault in Our Stars (emotionally, at least). Also, I want to see the movie, and so I MUST read the book first.

2. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – This book has been given so many great recommendations.

ttt-code-name-verity-2

3. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein – I’ve been told countless times I MUST read this book. (I promise, I promise!)

ttt-gone-girl-enders-game

4. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – Another MUST-read, according to my writer’s group.

5. Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card – I think people either love this book or hate it. I’ve been told to read it, and I tried, once.

ttt-john-green-books

6 – 8. More John Green (An Abundance of Katherines, Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns) – MUST read more novels by John Green.

ttt-dorothy-shatter-me

9. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige – I’ve been told that if I enjoy retellings (I do) that I MUST read this book.

10. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – I’ve heard good things!
