So today’s topic is books to put you in the Halloween spirit – I’ve chosen 10 that gave me goosebumps, or featured demons/monsters/magic. And consequently, I think each of these novels could inspire a really cool costume, which was the other topic for today’s TTT. Enjoy!

TTT-halloween-1

1. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – Warriors fighting demons – definitely a series to put you in the Halloween spirit!

2. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – If the Darkling doesn’t put you in the Halloween spirit, I don’t know what will.

3. Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong – Monsters! *squeal*

4. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – Book 1 in a series about magic and Fae and evil kings.

5. In the Shadows by Keirsten White – Several scenes seriously creeped me out. Totally appropriate for Halloween!

TTT-halloween-2

6. Cinder by Marissa Meyer – This Cinderella requires a very different costume.

7. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – Vampires. The undead. Need I say more?

8. Vitro by Jessica Khoury – There are humans being bred on this island.

9. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge – Another darker/grittier fairy tale retelling!

10. Born of Illusion by Teri Brown – Magicians, mediums, mentalists, and seances. Read this on Halloween and shiver with delight. (That was cheesy. I apologize.)

What novels put you in the Halloween spirit? Please share!

Ooh, fun list! I never got past the first few chapters of City of Bones, but from what I read of it I think it’d probably be a good Halloween choice. 😉 And I’d definitely love to read In the Shadows sometime, it sounds marvelous!

In the Shadows was definitely interesting – loved the illustrations and comic book aspect of it! Kiersten White writes so beautifully. 🙂 As for City of Bones, you should give it another shot! The plot gets super convoluted somewhere around book 4, but I persevered for the characters. There are some seriously funny one-liners in that series. Thanks for commenting, Taylor!

I’m definitely intrigued by the way In the Shadows tells two stories side by side, one in words and one in illustrations. I don’t often read graphic novels (hardly ever, in fact) but that one really caught my eye and I’m looking forward to reading it!

It was one of the first books I requested for review via Netgalley, and I hadn’t really even researched it so I had no idea there were pictures! (Rookie mistake) And to my surprise, my request was actually approved – I was sort of shocked when I downloaded the book, but I really enjoyed it so it all worked out in the end. 🙂
