Harry Potter & Star Wars

Just to warn you, this is a pretty random blog post. Here goes!

Harry Potter and Star Wars are very similar. No; I’m not talking about similarities between Hogwarts and galaxies, Harry Potter and the Skywalkers. I’m talking about the millions of die-hard fans who dress up as their favorite characters and will watch the movies countless times. This past week of mine has been a Harry Potter and Star Wars mania week. 🙂 I couldn’t wait to tell you ALL about it…

Most kids I know grew up with Star Wars. When I was little, I was told to read a book instead of watching T.V., (which I didn’t mind at all), so I never watched Star Wars or cartoons. Until recently, I really didn’t know what Star Wars was. Sure, I had heard of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, and of Darth Vader. (Although, until recently, I thought it was Dark Vader. Which still seems to make more sense to me than ‘Darth.’) But I never knew that Luke and Leia were related (I thought they fell in love), and I never knew that (SPOILER ALERT), Vader was Luke’s father. Two of my younger cousins are HUGE Star Wars fans, and they told my sister and I to watch the movies. So we borrowed the series and have been watching the movies with my dad. We have finished movies 1, 2, and 3, and are currently watching movie #4, the original Star Wars movie. My favorite character WAS Anakin Skywalker, and still would be if he weren’t Darth Vader. (I don’t blame him for becoming evil. The Jedi and the Dark Force seemed to be pushing him in that direction and the poor guy was trying to save his wife.) In short, Star Wars is awesome, and even though it is confusing and sometimes hard to sit through, I find myself caught up in the intricate story line and nearly moved to tears. I love the characters, the adventure, and the excitement, and I couldn’t wait to write about my new-found interest. 🙂 P.S. Vote on my newest Star Wars poll!

So – Harry Potter. I am in love with Harry Potter, as well as J.K. Rowling, and I have written other blog posts that say so. (Check out my very forward post.) Last week, I am sorry to say, was the end of Harry Potter. 🙁 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiered at midnight on July 14th, and I was part of the audience. Cool, right? The movie was AWESOME – best one yet. My friend and I didn’t even realize that we had bought 3D tickets, so watching the movie in 3D (from the 2nd row) just added to the experience. I’m also rereading the series (yes, again!), and just finished Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Check out my Brooke Review on the series on my Youtube channel. 🙂

Happy 4th of July!

Just wanted to let everyone know to have a wonderful 4th of July! I slept in this morning (I actually just got back from a 10 day trip with my youth group) and I have dinner with family later this afternoon! I hope everyone remembers that today marks the anniversary of our wonderful country, and we are so LUCKY to have freedom.

Happy Birthday America!

Blog Updates: May 15 2011

Hey everyone! I’m so excited because my blog-viewings have definitely spiked in this last couple of months. If you are new to my blog, be sure to check out the new features I’ve recently added.

Look at the pages listed above: I have added a ‘Presentations’ page and a ‘Q&A w/ Brooke’ page. The ‘Presentations’ page is a sub-page of ‘De Couleur Pale,’ so to view this page find it listed in the left sidebar. 🙂

Those might not seem like major improvements, but I am very excited about them!! I have done 3 school presentations so far, and I would love to do more, so if you’re interested in having me speak at your school take a peak at the ‘Presentations’ page. If you have seen one of my presentations, and didn’t get a chance to ask questions, please submit them to my ‘Q&A’ page so I can provide an answer. If you haven’t seen a presentation, that’s alright too because you also can submit your questions! An email for submission is given on the page, and I have already answered a couple of frequently asked questions.

Alright! Enjoy!! I’m always looking for improvement, so if you have ideas, or critiques, or comments on the new features please let me know!! Either contact me through the email I’ve given on my ‘Q&A’ page or comment on this post.

Thanks Holy Comforter!

Today I made my last presentation of the year, at Holy Comforter, and I had a really great time! I felt very welcomed and I had a wonderful audience.

I’m so sad that the year has come to an end, but hopefully I will be making more presentations in the fall. I really want to upload the video from today’s presentation, so stay tuned!!!

Again, thanks Holy Comforter! I really enjoyed meeting the 5th and 6th grade students, and I hope that they had as much fun as I did!

Thanks Trinity Catholic!!

I had a great day yesterday visiting Trinity Catholic School!! I was a student there for 7th and 8th grade, and it was really great to be back. I love sharing my story, and advice on achieving your dreams. 🙂

Another wonderful part about yesterday: I knew almost everyone in the audience!! It made me a little bit more nervous, but I hope they still enjoyed it.

Thanks Community Christian School!!

I had a great day today…thanks to Community Christian!!

They invited me to speak to the 7th and 8th grade students about my books, and about setting goals and achieving your dreams. I think everyone had a great time. I will be posting the video of my presentation soon – so stay tuned! I met so many great kids and was so thankful for the opportunity. They were a great audience and asked wonderful questions.

Hopefully I’ll get to do this again at some of the other schools in Tallahassee. 🙂

Goodreads

I’ve actually written about Goodreads.com before, but I want to write about it again.

Goodreads.com is a really great site for people who LOVE books (like me) or writing. You can add the books you’ve read to your profile, find author quotes, read reviews on books you’ve read or books you’re planning to read, and more. You can also add chapters of books or entire novels that you’ve written. It’s a great way to put yourself out there and to show what you can do!

Just recently, my Goodreads profile was updated to ‘author’ status, so when anyone clicks on my profile or searches my name (or books), info about my series comes up as well. I’m really excited, because, again, it’s a great way to get myself out there and to promote my trilogy. 🙂 Below I have linked the Goodreads site and my author profile.

Scharred – Available on Amazon!!

EEEEEKKK!! Book 3 in the Sky City Trilogy – Scharred – is now available on Amazon!! 🙂

I’m so excited. Book 3 concludes the trilogy, and now I am free to work on a new project. If you’ve read the other two books, De Couleur Pale and A Battle of Fate, be sure to check this one out! I know it took a long time for me to finish the book, but now that it’s done, I’m very happy with it and really hope that everyone else enjoys it, as well.

Thanks!

Coming Soon: The Release of Book 3!

Hey, everyone! I am VERY excited to let you know that Book 3 – Scharred – is on it’s way. I am completely finished, and the final draft has been approved and sent off for the second proof copy.

The book should be published within the next two weeks!

I just sent out a reminder email to those who asked to be notified when the book is released (another email will be sent out as soon as the book is on Amazon), but if you have also read the series and would like to be notified, please fill out the form on the ‘Scharred’ page. Click this link if you would like to be notified when Book 3 is released.

I have updated the same page with a picture of the cover of Book 3 and the excerpt on the back of the book! It’s a very late sneak peak, but a sneak peak nonetheless. 🙂 Enjoy!
